What began as a student-driven idea has now grown into a real-world sustainability initiative\u2014helping reduce energy consumption, improve comfort, and create a healthier learning environment.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nTo better understand the story behind this initiative, hear from Emina, one of the student leaders driving the project. <br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nAt the center of this project is a technology called CONTINEWM\u2014a specially designed net made from plastic, minerals, and ceramics. While simple in appearance, this innovative system works within air conditioning units to improve their efficiency and overall performance.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nFor a school like ISB, where air conditioning accounts for a large portion of energy use, improving cooling efficiency is critical. CONTINEWM enhances heat exchange through a process known as air atomization, allowing AC systems to reach target temperatures faster while using less energy. On average, this can reduce electricity consumption by around 25%, making it a powerful step toward a more sustainable campus.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nIn addition to saving energy, the technology also improves temperature consistency within rooms. Instead of having areas that feel too cold or too warm, classrooms can maintain a more even and comfortable temperature\u2014creating better conditions for learning.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nAnother key benefit is its impact on air quality. Through a natural ionization process, the nets help reduce dust and airborne pollutants, including PM2.5. This means that alongside lowering energy use, the system supports a cleaner and healthier indoor environment for students and staff.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nThis Green Panthers initiative began with a connection. The technology was first introduced through Alex Lang, a keynote speaker at ISB\u2019s Summit conference and a partner at the company distributing CONTINEWM. Recognizing its potential, the Clean Energy Committee worked closely with Mr. Cunney, ISB\u2019s Facilities and Operations Director, to explore how it could be implemented on campus.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nBefore full adoption, a pilot test was conducted at an empty teacher housing unit to observe real-time results and evaluate its effectiveness. (A fun detail from the process: one of the team members involved was Maria Ehren, an ISB alum and Miss Universe Thailand.)<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nThe results were promising.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nFollowing the successful pilot and further discussions, ISB has now begun installing CONTINEWM across campus. This marks an important milestone\u2014not only in reducing energy consumption, but also in advancing student-led sustainability efforts.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nWhat makes this project even more impactful is its growing influence beyond ISB.
